Rafa’s Bald: Rafa’s new haircut

Rafa got his first haircut this week.   Before:  A fuzzy monster.  His babysitter called him a “genetic anomaly” because Cavaliers are supposed to have silky long hair that lies down flat.  Rafa, on the other hand, is a big poof ball, similar to a Pomeranian.  He coat is really pretty, but it tangles easily and he somehow always manages to get the entire back yard stuck into his coat and carries all of the twigs and weeds into the house.

And After:  He’s totally bald.  His groomer from Hawaii Mobile Pet Groomers,  actually kept his ears, tail, and leg feathering long, but buzzed cut him everywhere else.  I think he looks very handsome, plus he doesn’t shed as much.

Ping Weekend Update and Jenny’s Yakudoshi Party

Happy Holiday Weekend!   Santa Paws (more pictures later this week) on Sunday and the Cavalier King Charles Club of Hawaii Cookie Exchange and Christmas Playgroup on Saturday.  I made peppermint bark for the cookie exchange, and decorated the bags with sticker pictures of the puppies.   Jonathan really likes my peppermint bark, but I think Rafa most enjoyed his new octopus toy, a Christmas present to the boys from the Cavalier Club.  It has nine squeakers and a crinkle head, so Rafa is driving his brother crazy with the squeaky noises.

On Saturday, we also celebrated my belated Yakudoshi birthday at Asia Manoa.  According to Japanese beliefs, a yakudoshi year is a bad luck year (age 32 for girls and 41 for guys), or in literal translation, a “year of calamity”.  In Hawaii, it is custom to have a party to ward off the bad luck.  We wanted a happy and healthy year, so Jonathan and I wanted to make my yakudoshi party especially festive.  We chose the theme “Toy Story Aliens”, and decked out the entire party with Alien everything- cups, party hats, candle, balloons, party favors (I made chex mix and we decorated the containers with aliens!), and an alien table top pinata! Love it!

Pet Walk 2010!

Jonathan and I took the boys to the Humane Society Pet Walk this weekend.  Elton got to walk then entire walk, and I brought a stroller for Rafa.  It’s actually a modified human stroller that I borrowed from the kids.    I used it last year for the Woman’s 5K.  Unfortunately, Rafa grew a lot over the last year, and he doesn’t fit anymore!  Here is a picture of a Rafa last year.  Pretty cute, huh?

And,  some pictures of Rafa and Elton’s friends from this year’s walk:  Julie, Grant and Homer.

Kim and her chihuahuas Coco and Precious…

And Kenny, Stacy and Zoe.

Cavalier Playgroup!

We enjoyed a Cavalier King Charles of Hawaii chapter meeting/ picnic at Kapiolani Park last weekend.  Jonathan and I especially enjoy sitting inside of the “puppy pen” and playing with all of the Cavalier puppies.  Lots of thanks to Wendall and Cindy Fox, fellow club members, for the puppy photo booth.  I think this picture will be our Christmas card this year!

Congratulations Cousin Homer!

Homer was the “Dog of the Week” last week at the Hawaii Kai Dog Park!  Jonathan and I take the boys there almost everyday, and we saw his picture up on the notice board.  Homer has a ton of puppy energy, and I love his action shot picture.

Hawaii Kai Dog Walk 2010

Jonathan, Julie, Grant and I did the dog walk this year with Homer, Rafi and Diggies.  Rafa and Diggies did the “short” little dog walk, but Homer was able to complete the entire long doggie walk.  It was pretty long, and looped from the dog park, into the valley and back out towards the ocean; I’m pretty sure that our puppies don’t have the energy to complete the entire walk.  Still, they had a good time smelling the other dogs and we enjoyed checking out the booths.

Happy Birthday Homer, part 2

Jonathan and I took the boys over to Julie and Grant’s to say Happy Birthday to Homer yesterday.   We ate some cake, the boys played in the yard, and Homer opened his presents.  Julie said that Homer especially likes his green alligator from Rafa.
